How auto-balancing works

The roster builder splits your registrants into fair teams in one click. It's the part of LeagueRun that turns a weekend of spreadsheet wrangling into a few minutes.

Run a balance

  1. Open Roster Builder.
  2. Pick a division.
  3. If the division has no teams yet, click Create teams. LeagueRun offers the number of teams your roster target needs.
  4. Click Balance teams.

What the balancer is trying to do

  • Even team sizes. Teams always end up within one player of each other.
  • Even skill. It spreads experience so no team is stacked.
  • Even girls. It spreads girls evenly across teams.
  • Requests honored. It keeps teammate and coach requests together when they fit.
  • Nights respected. It keeps players off practice nights their family can't make.

Which of these apply, and how strictly, comes from the division's balance policy in Season Settings. Team size is the one rule that always holds.

It's predictable

The balancer is deterministic. The same players and the same rules produce the same teams every time. Running it again won't reshuffle everyone for no reason.

Nothing gets dropped silently

Anything the balancer can't satisfy is reported, never hidden. After a run, the line under the header shows how many moves it made, how many requests went unsatisfied, and how many players got pooled. Players it couldn't place land in the Unassigned column on the left, and each card carries a short badge explaining why (for example, no available night, coach's team full, or gender balance).

From here you review the board, move or lock players, and re-balance. See "Review and adjust team assignments."
